@UAIED because the concept behind 1984 applies to every country, whether it’s a democracy or a fascist nation. in any country, people are being controlled by one way or another.

@castroherman I agree whit your words castroherman. Though i would say that, bush and obama is the same thing, they are both big brother, same coin different heads, its just a mather of fooling the proletarian. Same goes for euroasia and eastern asia ;) .

This book is really great i never knew there were a movie. I will try to find it.

  4. UAIED says:

Why do Americans never quite understand that 1984 is a BRITISH book, written in BRITAIN, by a BRITISH writer, and is set in BRITAIN!

This has nothing to do with American politics, so why do you feel the need to argue and hijack something BRITISH and use it as a platform to rant your own politics?!

  5. castroherman says:

@ BigB1acknThick Funny how now big brother is the “Obama Future” all of a sudden but when the Bush administration was wire tapping, doing extraordinary renditions, creating the Patriot Act, censoring scientists, etc. etc. People like you seemed to think it was fine. You sir are exactly the sort of person that Orwell describes in his book as a party member using doublethink. I challenge you to read the book and see which administration (Bush or Obama) seems more like The INGSOC Party in 1984.

  6. avi8r1 says:

Jesus christ can we just have one video where some retard doesn’t feel the need to spout their anti-Obama bullshit, just this once

  7. BigB1acknThick says:

yeah smells like the obama future

  8. garfus2 says:

  9. Cereghini says:

If no one else is going to say it, I will. Ahem:
DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER, DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER, DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER!!!
    Thank you.

  10. why760nitro says:

this is obama the future is here
lets all chant the obama mantra

This is change, change is good, good is good, and hope is good, and hope is change, and this is the change they voted for .

Don’t be to exited, it’s not porn. Although most Americas won’t know other way. Sometimes, naked is just ‘without clothes’.

  12. aminimilk says:

@xxkristinee you can watch it on google video

  13. yaladay says:

I just read the book for English class. If I watch the movie do I get to see Julia naked?

  14. garfus2 says:

this is damn near the best adaptation of an important novel onto film i’ve ever seen in my life. this should have won the academy award for best picture, cinematography, supporting actress, etc. the dude who made this, “michael radford”, is like if akira kurosawa was 25 years younger and and english. this movie is that technical perfection. do yourself a favour and ignore all of politics and simply look at this as a great work of art. is better than the actual book, in my humble opinion.

I think it is really any group, i was in Afghanistan in the mountains and really no other people existed. Day to day, but us, even though we had contact with the outside constantly. It is group mentality. Us versus them is all it is.
But how true the statement by tuber23504

    shonniemichael:
    LOL.

    UAIED:
If I remember my history correctly Brittania (aka The British Empire) for HUNDREDS of years also exhibited the phenonema of thinking that the world revolves, in total, around them….it is NOT just an american phenonema.

Moreover, I think the real challenge this world faces is myopic, over-generalization….as if people, whether American, Brits, etc ALL think as one and have no capacity for singular, individual thought.

Winston Smith’s face is similar to John Lydon

  20. jamityclane says:

haha! i’ve done that before, too. but this book is fantastic. WAY better than the movie.

  21. tuber23504 says:

true…the japoanese/american interrnment camps were indeed a heinious act and a travesty…as was the federal govs view of native american indians from the beginning to about the 1960’s…and the slave trade during much of the early part of that era.

But as heinious as these devoplments were, they were directed towards specific groups of people. The Patriot Act curtailed a huge amount of freedoms across the board…all U.S. populations.

More w/ congress…less directly by the public.

  22. xxkristinee says:

Who else is writting an essay about this book and is trying to see the movie? :P

  23. shonniemichael says:

Not true just look at WWII and the Japanese/Americans Just one example. i can go on but you get it or you dont.
Not saying Bush or anyone did bad or good but that they did it with Congress and the American people.

  24. Sonytube12345 says:

    1984 = scientology

  25. Dollyrollins says:
